Education and Outreach

From time to time, GISKA brings in speakers who have provided highly informative and well-attended community presentations.

Recent talks have included the following:

  • Jaclyn Cleary, Herring Stock Assessment Biologist from DFO spoke to the community about herring populations in the Strait of Georgia.
  • Dave McLean (previously of Northwest Hydralic Consultants) and biologist Rupert Wong of Current Environmental, provided an informative presentation for the community about soft shores approaches.
  • John Roe, Dead Boat Disposal Society, provided a presentation on abandoned boat removal

    GABRIOLA MAPPING PROJECTS

    EELGRASS MAPPING Gabriola Island

    The following maps were created by the Galiano Conservancy in 2013 and show extent of eelgrass beds around Gabriola Island. These maps are being updated by GISKA and signs will be erected at many locations to educate and provide guidance on the importance of anchoring and mooring outside of these important habitats.
